💡 Tip 1 — Always Size Up for Multiple Devices: When running two or more airstones, sponge filters, or accessories from one pump, add the GPH requirement of each device together, then apply your safety buffer. Splitting airflow reduces pressure to each outlet — a pump rated at exactly your needed GPH will underperform when split.
💡 Tip 2 — Depth Matters More Than Volume: A 55-gallon tank that is 21 inches deep requires significantly more pump pressure than a 55-gallon shallow sump. Always check the pump's rated operating depth or back-pressure (psi) in addition to its GPH rating. A pump rated at 1.5 psi can comfortably serve most tanks up to 24 inches deep.
